SG Brain — AI optimisation across the SG CONNECT ecosystem

NGEN has introduced SG Brain, an AI-driven optimisation engine that adds predictive decision-making to every NGEN-controlled energy storage system. It represents a significant upgrade to the SG CONNECT platform.

SG Brain builds a new optimisation plan every hour. Each plan forecasts solar production, consumption patterns, day-ahead market prices and the battery's state of charge, then sets the operating schedule for the period ahead. The system therefore acts on what is expected to happen rather than only on what is currently being measured.

The distinction has practical consequences. A battery that responds only to present conditions can discharge into a period that turns out to be cheap, or arrive at a demand peak without enough stored energy to cover it. A system that forecasts the peak several hours ahead can hold the necessary charge in reserve and still use the remaining capacity for price arbitrage in the meantime.

For users, three effects follow. Energy costs fall as the system charges during low-price periods and uses or sells stored energy when prices rise. Network charges fall through automatic peak shaving. Self-generated solar energy is used more effectively, with surpluses stored for the periods where they displace the most expensive consumption.

SG Brain operates across the NGEN ecosystem. It is the optimisation layer within SG CONNECT, which handles local control, monitoring and market participation.

The SG CONNECT app now displays the financial effect of battery optimisation in euros, calculated from each customer's own electricity prices, consumption profile and network tariffs.
